Proposal of the Conservation Trust

The historical city centre of Durham has changed little over the past 200 years. Archeological evidence suggests a history of settlement in the area since roughly 2000 BC. The city has been known by a number of names throughout history.

The first census, conducted in 1801 states that Durham City had a population of 7,100 and now the built-up area of Durham has a population of 43k.

Durham is situated 12 miles south of Sunderland. The River Wear flows through the city, which creates Durham's "peninsula".

Durham is a bumpy city, being built upon the symbolic seven hills. Upon the central and prominent position above the Wear, where the cathedral towers over the skyline.

The Conservation Trust is made up of 5 elected councillors benefiting from substantial authority within Durham's eastern suburbs. The goal and proposed projects outline the need for greater conservation awareness to be promoted throughout the industrial sector of the city.

There are many projects currently in place and some proposals awaiting approval, outlined below are some which are currently being proposed by the committee and are just now awaiting final approval from the councillors.
